Our next meeting is tentatively scheduled for Sat Apr 19 @ 10AM, which is Easter weekend. (The weekend after that is the kids’ triathlon, and then Carnival, so if that time doesn’t work, we will likely try for a weekday evening zoom time or skip April and meet in mid-May.)
Low attendance this time, and a shorter meeting.
MBA
Unfortunately, we were unable to attend this Friday’s MBA board meeting (second time in a row). We were very pleased to see the meeting time and zoom link listed in the Daily News. However, it seems that it was switched to an in-person meeting at the last minute. I do not believe any reporters were present, so I don’t expect to see a summary, but we can ask.
Since we did not attend the MBA board meeting, we did not raise concerns about the size of the snorkel tours. We had at least emailed the general manager after last month’s meeting though.
No update on when there will be an MBA townhall (perhaps that was discussed at the board meeting?).
The personal boats that were by the YakShak were removed by MBA. It is our understanding that they are being stored somewhere, so if you are missing something, contact MBA.
There is currently no head lifeguard.
Friends board members and other volunteers
All existing Friends board members except for Matthew Hodge have chosen to renew their commitments to continue on the board.
Robert Messick has expressed interest in joining the board and assisting with incorporation. (Thanks!)
Social meeting volunteers wanted: Do you use Facebook regularly? Know someone who does and wants to join Friends? Let us know.
At the beach
There were jellyfish for a while, but we suspect the recent waves flushed them out. (This is the kind of thing it would be useful for us to post on Facebook.)
Friends’ trash walks are not well attended, but a few people are doing cleanups on their own. We’ve also started keeping the plastic bottles separate and bringing those to the Market to recycle.
We discussed the manchineel trees at Magens – where they are and how dangerous they are. At least in the more populated parts of the beach, they are labeled with warnings.
The dog is still at the beach. Someone expressed willingness to take it and has been trying to entice it by introducing it to their own dogs, but it continues to avoid capture.
