Disability access

Beach & ocean accessibility:

Magens Bay is not a particularly steep beach, although it is flatter in the middle section than at either end. There is an accessible sidewalk and blue beach access mat path that leads from the taxi drop-off (turn left at the entrance and park before the bridge) to the edge of the water. It's about 200 feet in length. Beach wheelchairs are available by the entrance to the beach on a first-come first-serve basis; ask at the gate.

For an even shorter walk to the ocean – about 100 feet, though over sand rather than a walkway – turn left at the entrance and continue over the bridge to the handicapped parking spots immediately after the bridge.

Accessible parking spots are located by most of the restrooms and sheds, as well as by the concession (bar & grill) and beach entrance. Photos:

Restroom accessibility:

Magens Bay has three sets of restrooms with some accessibility accommodations. The small restroom located before shed 1 (in the small parking area if you go straight at the entrance) has the only bathrooms that do not require a ramp. The restrooms past shed 4 (turn left at the entrance and drive down to the end) are the only facilities that were built after the passage of the ADA. Upgrades are being planned for the other restrooms to meet ADA compliance.
