Nov 14 MBA board meeting notes:
Attendance: All except Dayle Barry present.
[I didn’t start taking notes until about 15 minutes after the hour, so I might have missed something.]
Notified Royal Caribbean that they will be removing the Irmaria recycled artwork they had donated.
Bathhouse renovations are progressing smoothly.
How long to be reimbursed for payments? Longer than previously - expect it to take about 3 months.
Finance
Favoring EFT for investing.
Need to pay for more porta potties while bathhouse renovations are in progress.
Discussed salary adjustments for management in executive session
Budget was passed Oct 1
Proposal from Roy Watlington: Webcams at Lindquist for NOAA (SECOORA, sister organization to CARICOOS) to monitor sargassum, rip currents, beach erosion, etc.
No cost to MBA. If agreement signed by MBA, SECOORA will send a technician down to do installation.
Data will be publicly available (for noncommercial uses).
1 year trial, then as long as CARICOOS and MBA want.
Webcams would be installed on land looking out (e.g., on a pole - specific placement would be decided with MBA).
Are we required to notify people that they may be recorded? Would need to comply with whatever local requirements are. Don’t want to infringe on anyone’s privacy.
MBA currently has cameras on both beaches for security reasons (not publicly available though).
Could we have a school adopt a camera to use in their curriculum? Yes, as an example, Karl Callwood in Mandahl [Climate Change VI] might be interested.
Barbara Petersen’s discrepancies with something [I think the Sep MBA meeting minutes?]
Stating in public since it is in response to statements made in public.
Past proposal of changes to MBA board structure: In 2019(?) Sen Sarauw proposed increasing the number of board members appointed by the governor (someone from DPNR, etc, etc); Mac Davis wrote something against, Barbara Petersen went public against, Coulianos did nothing.
[Note: Here are the references I found to this: Bill No 33-0374 (Sep 22 2020), Mac Davis Dec 6 2020, Katina Coulianos Dec 10 2020, Sen Janelle Sarauw Dec 18 2020]
Concession: Talked about the food concession going out for bid for over a decade, but nothing happened, so don’t want someone else getting credit.
Chairperson position: Statement that not interested in running for chairperson was untrue. [Not sure what this meant - I think referring to whether or not Coulianos was interested in continuing as chairperson after the end of her previous chairperson term, after which Petersen became chair. But I could be completely wrong.]
Request to look into increasing travel per diem for board from $75 to $100.
Not sure if this is needed since meals are usually included in conferences.
Increased transportation costs.
Would need to look at actual numbers. No urgency.
Introductions
HL Freyn - Walk on Water Water Sports.
Shaniece McMillon - taxi.
Alani Henneman - new board member.
No questions from observers.
